The Brain Tumour Charity reaps the rewards of moving to Salesforce Lightning

The Brain Tumour Charity

The Brain Tumour Charity is the world's leading brain tumour charity and the largest dedicated funder of research into brain tumours globally. 102,000 people are currently living with a brain tumour and the impact can be devastating. Research into brain tumours is woefully underfunded. Survival rates are just 11% and treatments haven't changed in 40 years. The Brain Tumour Charity has ambitious goals of doubling survival rates and halving the harm that brain tumours have on quality of life.

The Challenge

The Brain Tumour Charity is a role model for the use of technology in helping deliver its mission. Used by every team, their Salesforce implementation spans fundraising, donor management, some grant management, marketing and campaigning, event management and delivery of its vital support services. Having implemented the Classic version of Salesforce some 6 years ago, they were keen to leverage the efficiency benefits of the updated Lightning user interface.

The Brain Tumour Charity has a small internal CRM team, but they were already heavily used on other projects, supporting the team on a daily basis and they didn’t have all of the skills and Lightning knowledge required to complete the transition themselves.

Our Solution

This is where Time Technology got to help: Offering substantially discounted rates and a flexible, ‘part of the team’ approach, Time Technology helped The Brain Tumour Charity move to Lightning in a controlled and cost-effective way. The work we delivered included:

  • Review and updating of old code to new flows, improving efficiencies and optimising their Salesforce implementation
  • New buttons and functionality to reduce data entry time
  • Review and replacement of custom buttons and links that are not supported in Lightning
  • Advice and guidance on Lightning features, allowing the in-house team to deliver some of the less technical migration
  • New functionality to improve stock control
  • A full security review and update
  • Lightning Reporting and Dashboards training
  • Integration with Outlook 365

The Impact

It is still early days, but the charity has reported full user adoption of Lighting inside a month and a reduction of some input time of over 25%. We expect to report further on these efficiency improvements as it demonstrates how important it is that non-profits look to make the move to Lightning sooner rather than later.

Liz Roberts, CRM Database Manager, said “We had an excellent experience with Time Technology Ltd, who supported us through our migration to Lightning from Classic. Their knowledge of Salesforce, including NPSP, was excellent. They understood our needs and were able to produce some innovative solutions to help us improve efficiencies, as well as develop new and updated functionality that works in Lightning. They were able to deliver additional requirements which came up during the project as well. They were generous with their knowledge sharing, which helped to upskill the in-house team throughout the project.”

Sarah Lindsell, CEO, said “Salesforce is vital for our charity as it is used across every area of our work, so choosing the right partner to ensure we moved smoothly to Lightning and supported, rather than disrupted the team, was crucial. Time Technology were great to work with, knowledgeable and fun. They really were part of the team rather than just a partner (including bringing in cakes!) and, most importantly, they helped us bring the project in ahead of schedule and under budget.”
